Cash handouts dominate Ol Kalou by-election campaigns

The Ol Kalou by-election has emerged as one of the most expensive political contests in recent memory, amid reports of widespread cash handouts as rival camps intensify campaigns to win voter support. Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria yesterday acknowledged spending KSh1.2 million on what he described as voter facilitation. As Emmanuel Too reports, the usually quiet town of Ol Kalou has been transformed into a campaign hotspot, with many residents putting their daily activities on hold to benefit from the flow of money being spent ahead of the July 16 by-election.
