Catholics across the country on Wednesday observed ash Wednesday, as calls for fasting and acts of charity resonated at the start of the lent season. The observance signals the beginning of the forty-day period of fasting, reflection and spiritual renewal for catholics and many other christians around the world. In Nairobi, thousands of faithful streamed into holy family basilica, where ash Wednesday masses were held throughout the day. The morning service presided over by Philip Anyolo, used the occasion to urge politicians to abandon divisive politics and instead promote unity and the common good.
