Labour Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui says concerns raised by digital taxi drivers on the need to be recognised as workers and not independent contractors are 'valid', but the appropriate regulations to guide the gig economy in Kenya have not yet been developed. In response to a landmark ruling by the UK supreme court recognizing digital taxi drivers as 'workers' entitled to minimum wage and other benefits, a section of Kenyan digital taxi drivers on Monday asked the want the government to adopt a similar approach.
