https://nation.africa/ Former Inspector general of police David Kimaiyo has advised the government to address the root cause of the insecurity in Kerio valley instead of merely banking on combat.
The called on government to reconsider it's massive deployment of security organs but also a socio economic strategy to help the poor communities in the region.
The former Police boss said the perennial insecurity in the region has been triggered by historical injustices and development marginalisation by previous regimes which needs urgent solution.
Kimaiyo who spoke to the Nation in Kitale,Trans Nzoia, urged the government to roll out robust development plan for the region to give hope to the communities in the area and help rehabilitate their way of life.
Kimaiyo a Criminal justice expert said government must invest heavily on intelligence in the region to flush out criminals who benefit economically from cattle rustling and insecurity.
He called on the interior Cabinet Secretary Kindiki Kithure to stop public stunt but instead invest on technical support from the security professionals.
Dr Kimaiyo excluded that the perennial insecurity has also been contributed by insincerity among a section of political leaders bank of incitement for selfish political supremacy.
He said government should investigate some top leaders in the area for lack of goodwill towards government efforts to end insecurity.
He used the Shakahola massacre of hundreds of Kenyans to point out the importance of citizens to give information about crimes to the security organs.
