A brewing major internal rebellion threatens to divide DCP party following dispute over the choice of candidate in the forthcoming Mbeere North by-election, after the Rigathi Gachagua-led party withdrew its candidate. Gachagua and Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi, who both belong to the opposition brokered a deal which saw DCP’s Dancun Mbui drop from the race in favor of DP’s Newton Karish. The DCP's Embu County Chairman Joshua Kane asserted that Mbui remains their chosen candidate and warned that any move to deny him the party ticket would lead to a mass exodus of support.
