Social media was a buzz earlier this week when a former nominated Senator tweeted that Kenya had allowed DNA paternity testing kits that could be used at home. Narratives about deadbeat dads and paternity fraud dominated the conversation before it was later established that over the counter kits are only used to collect samples with the results processed at a licensed laboratory. DNA testing aside, the reactions from Kenyans online were largely negative bringing up the usual unfavourable sentiments people have around the place of fathers in society.
