Members of the Dupoto Settlement Scheme, affiliated with the Matapato group, have petitioned the National Assembly’s Committee on Lands to intervene and facilitate compensation after they were allegedly shortchanged in a land compensation deal. The land was acquired by the government for the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway According to the Matapato Group officials over 474 members of the Matapato group, have not received any portion of the KSh 2.75 billion paid out as compensation. They claim that trustees responsible for managing the process diverted the funds and failed to distribute them to the rightful landowners. The group is now demanding that the committee either facilitate the compensation or ensure the return of their 26 acres of land, which they say was taken without due benefit.
