Education taskforce wants the recruitment of academic heads of universities be scrapped from PSC

The recruitment of academic and administrative Heads of Universities will no longer be conducted by the Public Service Comission, should the recommendations by the the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms is implemented. The Prof. Raphael Munavu led taskforce, attributes the poor performance by many universities to the lack of credibility in the appointment process which they say is often marred with ethnic considerations and political interference as opposed to merit. The taskforce also recommended the merger of Universities in line with specializations to enhance performance in research and innovation.
