Environmentalist wants govt to ban timber exports

    A report by the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) that revealed that six million eucalyptus trees were felled between January and June 2024 has got the attention of environmentalist who are now calling on the government to impose moratorium on the export According to the report, the export of the trees mostly aged five to six years was primarily driven by demand from the Asian economic giants. Environmentalist and the green thinking action party leader dr. Isaac kalua green says Kenya is staring at a crisis of monumental proportions adding that Kenya may be manipulating its forest cover numbers. Dr. Kalua has also criticized the government’s proposal of expanding a road that runs through the Karura Forest saying the country risks losing its valued forest to cartels and land grabbers.
