A landmark moment in Eastern Africa’s journey toward sustainable energy unfolded today as the region hosted its first Regional Green Hydrogen Symposium in Nairobi. The two-day event, held in Nairobi brought together over 300 influential leaders and stakeholders from across Eastern Africa and beyond to chart a bold new course for green hydrogen development. Co-hosted by the Governments of Kenya and Germany and supported by GIZ and East African Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Efficiency, the symposium marks a powerful step toward clean energy innovation and climate resilience. Emphasizing the importance of tapping into the potential of green hydrogen, Sebastian Groth, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Kenya, announced that Germany has allocated KES 40 billion to support the development of green hydrogen markets in developing and emerging African nations. He noted that special attention will be given to key countries such as Kenya, Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa.
