More than 3000 families in Tarassa, Tana Delta have been displaced by floods caused, after River Tana burst its banks. Hundreds of learners have also been forced to skip school, as they cannot cross the swollen river to access education. The most affected is Odole Primary and Junior school, which has lost almost half of its population of 700 learners. According to the Kenya Redcross respone team, the humanitarian crisis dating back to April this year is becoming dire, as many families are now stuck in IDP camps, having lost their homes and sources of livelihoods
