Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has distanced himself from claims that he is funding the anti-government protests called by the opposition Azimio la Umoja coalition. Uhuru has also told off President William Ruto over Friday’s police raid at his son’s residence in Nairobi, claiming that the government attempted to plant drugs and guns on his two sons. Uhuru says he has not spoken directly to his former deputy since he took office, whom he accuses of unleashing state machinery to intimidate him and his family. Uhuru says he did his best to defend Kenya while he was head of state and is now focused on defending his family, reminding his successor, William Ruto, that power is temporary.
