The government has closed over 3,000 illegal mining operations in the country. This follows the new reforms in the mining sector that are aimed at curbing illegal mining and smuggling of mines in and outside the country.
Principal Secretary in the ministry of mining Elijah Mwangi said that the government has also cancelled and terminated 1,500 licenses for miners operating against the conditions of their licenses.
Gaturi ward MCA Gathee wa Njeri welcomed the mining reforms saying host counties had been exploited for long.
