The electric fencing of the South Western Mau forest has begun in earnest with Forestry Cabinet Secretary Deborah Mulongo launching the exercise. The 30-kilometre electric fencing is funded by the Initiative for Sustainable Landscapes (ISLA), which has been funding conservation activities in the South Western Mau since 2015. Speaking during the event, the CS applauded the move saying it will reduce human wildlife conflict, help natural regeneration and gap further encroachment of the forest.The initiative for sustainable landscape senior Manager Beatah Nzove confirmed that they have restored 20,000 hectares of degraded forest in south western Mau and protected 60,000 hectares which had been over been grazed and encroached.
