In response to growing questions from Kenya’s youth about the source of funds being distributed at economic empowerment forums nationwide, the government has launched a Ksh 28 billion Youth Empowerment Fund. The initiative, dubbed the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA), aims to support youth-owned businesses across all 290 constituencies. Speaking during an empowerment forum for over 70 small-scale trader SACCOs in Lari, Kiambu County, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki announced that 70 youth-led businesses in every ward will receive grants from the national government to help grow their enterprises.
