Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to conserving the Kakamega Forest through various protection and restoration programs. Speaking today during the Mazingira Day celebrations at Khaunga Primary School in Mumias East, he said the County Government has intensified efforts to fence off the forest and promote tree planting to safeguard the only remaining tropical rainforest in the region. He noted that these initiatives complement the national government’s target of planting 15 billion trees by the year 2032, emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation for future generations.
