Over 861,000 Kenyans had officially registered with the Social Health Authority as of September 3, 2024, and nearly 10,000 health facilities have been licensed.
Government Spokesperson Dr. Isaac Mwaura says draft contracts with healthcare providers have been finalized, and the government is now focusing on public education about the transition from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the Social Health Authority (SHA). Salaried employees will contribute 2.75 percent of their gross salary through their employers, while non-salaried employees will contribute the same percentage based on means testing. All civil servants are expected to be registered by October 1, 2024.
