The government has allocated more than 10 billion shillings for last-mile connectivity projects in the Mount Kenya region, with a specific focus on connecting 115,000 households across nine counties to the national grid. Speaking at Kilimambogo in Thika Town Constituency, Kiambu County, Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira said the program will boost economic activities, improve security, and spur development across the Mount Kenya region urging the youth and small-scale traders to take advantage of the improving infrastructure and tap into new opportunities. Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a lauded the initiative, saying about 1,750 families in the constituency are expected to benefit. Rural electrification and renewable energy corporation (REREC) CEO Dr. Rose Mkalama, on her part, urged residents to protect newly installed transformers against vandalism a challenge that continues to cost the government billions of shillings.
