High Court in Meru temporarily halts impeachment process

    he High Court in Meru has temporarily halted the debate on the impeachment of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza which was to take place today at the County Assembly. Justice L. Kassan said it was important to maintain the status quo pending the final ruling on the petition, to ensure the judicial process is not rushed, allowing enough time for a thorough analysis of the evidence presented.The final hearing on the matter has been scheduled for Monday, the 29th of July 2024.The motion to impeach Governor Mwangaza was tabled at the Meru County Assembly on the 17th of July 2024 by Deputy Majority Leader Zipporah Kinya.UDA party had written to Kinya on the 20th of July 2024, directing her to withdraw the motion for the sake of the party’s unity. This is the third year in a row that Mwangaza is facing impeachment since assuming office in 2022.
