Teachers in Homa Bay County have called on the public to acquire basic sign language skills to better support children who have hearing and speech impairment. The appeal is part of a broader initiative to promote inclusivity and ensure children with hearing and speech challenges are active in the society.Speaking during an awareness walk in Homa Bay town, the principal of Nyangweso School for the Deaf Anne Akinyi emphasized the need for supportive environments at home and in schools. He noted that learning sign language can help parents improve communication with their children, boost educational outcomes and reduce social isolation.
