https://nation.africa/ How climate change is fueling insecurity in Kerio Valley The impacts of climate change and environment crisis have become drivers and agents of conflict, violence and greatest risks to peace and security in the troubled Kerio valley region. The effects amplify weather disasters and destabilize food and water supplies in semi arid areas causing residents to suffer from hunger pangs. These conflicts and violence, directly or indirectly are characterized by violent livestock raids and conflicts over communal resources and boundary disputes. But the Christian Impact Mission (CIM) organization that works in Tiaty,Baringo County and Central Pokot Sub-County is West Pokot is tackling the effects through projects that cushion and build the resilience of local communities from the effects of climate change. Some of these projects focus on the introduction of drought-resistant crops and construction of water pans to provide water for animals and households. Through the conflict transformation strategy in crop production, the Organization has also put in place interventions that help communities in conflict areas to coexist with one another through initiating irrigation projects and sensitizing the pastoralists on ways of diversifying their livelihood to combat climate change effects.#ntvnews #nation #kenya #kenyanews #ruto
