A directive from police Inspector General Japhet Koome to ban traffic police officers from using firearms while on official duty has elicited reactions from within and outside the national police service. Even as the service maintains that the ban stems from increased cases of traffic officers misusing their firearms, it also came just hours after Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission CEO Twalib Mbarrak lamented a near-fatal incident along the Maimahiu Nairobi High Way when his officers were effecting the arrest of a traffic police officer on counts of corruption.
