Irony of a village in the dark near Turkwel power station

    The Turkwel Hydroelectric Power Station, also known as the Turkwel Dam in West Pokot County is the third largest hydroelectric power plant in the country, producing an electric capacity of 106 megawatts. But in a twist of irony, the Riting community around the Turkwel Dam don’t have electricity, living in utter darkness for over 3 decades now since the Power Station became operational. The community some of who moved from their lands to pave way for the powerplant now want the government to light up their village and spark economic growth in the region.
