Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho has ordered the immediate halt of mining operations at all mining sites in the Jaribuni area in Kauma Sub County, Kilifi County after residents protested about health hazards. Joho who met with mining investors at Kilifi Governor’s residence emphasized that mining companies must comply with mining regulations, contribute to community development and address environmental concerns before resuming operations. Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro also stressed the need to protect communities living near mining sites to prevent catastrophes.
