Journalists globally risk their lives to inform the public and hold those in power accountable, with conflict coverage being an especially challenging task. UNESCO reported 38 journalists and media workers killed in conflict zones in 2023, the majority in the Middle East. In response to such, Turkish Anadolu agency, Turkish cooperation and coordination agency Tika, and the Turkish police academy initiated the "war journalism certificate program" in 2012, training correspondents covering such extraordinary situations.
