Tensions flared in Nguthuru area in Muranga county as police officers engaged in running battles with the area’s rowdy youths. The unrest erupted after a police officer allegedly shot and injured three young men accused of stealing pineapples from the nearby Del Monte farm. The incident which lasted for the better part of the day paralysed transport and businesses along the Thika - Kenol highway.
