Human Rights defenders are warning that there may be a well-calculated scheme to derail the ongoing campaign against Female Genital Mutilation. Despite a significant decline in FGM over the years, some communities are medicalizing the practice in what is seen as a desperate attempt to circumvent the law and keep the retrogressive practice alive. As Sarafina Robi reports, questions now abound as to whether FGM can indeed be eradicated by the year 2030 in the wake of this new challenge.
