Kenya loses approximately 30 to 40 percent of its food between the farm gate and the market, with cereal losses alone ranging between 12 and 17 percent, translating to an estimated 72 billion shillings loss annually. It is this loss that the government aims to curb through digitisation. According to the warehouse receipts council, the new digital warehouse receipt system will have a digital registry, where commodities stored in warehouses will be certified, giving farmers collateral. The authority says this will reduce disputes, strengthen lender confidence, and provide farmers with flexibility and bargaining power
