The government’s decision to allow the resumption of non-contact sports has handed the Kenya Badminton Federation renewed hope to resume competitive action and have launched air-badminton in Nairobi and Mombasa counties. Air badminton is another form of the game, which uses the same rules, but a modified projectile that has more stability and wind resistant. According to the Secretary General Jeff Shigholi, the local calendar is expected to resume fully by December with the Jamhuri cup since most badminton players have been inactive due to the covid19 pandemic. The federation is set to meet soon to discuss the restructured calendar and the new safety requirements. Plans are also underway to host the Kenya international badminton tournament in 2021.
