The Kipsigis community clans organization, comprising 200 clans, wants a tea company to return the tea estate to the local community peacefully, warning potential buyers against purchasing the business. Speaking at the Kapkatet Stadium during what the gathering termed as the Kapkatet Declaration, Kipsigis Community Clans Organization Secretary General Joel Kimetto, cautioned local elected leaders in Kericho and Bomet counties, as well as the national government against participating in the sale of what they consider their ancestral land. Kimetto, who led at least 1,500 members of the Kipsigis community clans organization, disclosed that they have at least 101 partners ready to team up with them to buy the Lipton Tea Estate.
