The Kenya National Union of teachers is pushing for a 60 percent pay rise for teachers across all cadres as it seeks full implementation of the 2021-2025 collective bargaining agreement. Speaking in Kisumu today, KNUT secretary general Collins Oyuu revealed that some teachers had stagnated due to the harsh economic times with previous CBAs having focused on better packages for school heads and school administrators. And as Laura Otieno reports, the union is also seeking to petition parliament to set aside 4.5 billion shillings to enable teachers take up professional advancement courses currently offered at a cost of 6,000 shillings per teacher.
