A family in the Kiangothe village of Kirinyaga county is overjoyed after their kin who was serving a life sentence at the King’ong’o prison in Nyeri was released after a successful appeal. 52-year-old Peter Githinji was set free having served 13 years after he was found guilty of defiling his own daughter. His efforts to appeal the 20-year sentence, only made things worse as he was instead handed a life sentence. Friends and relatives who received him after he left prison are optimistic that he will make the best of what is left of his life, even as he admits that life is not the same, having lost his glory days behind bars.
