The agreement to call off the strike following late-night talks between President William Ruto and transport sector stakeholders has triggered anger among matatu operators across the country. In several regions, some operators kept their vehicles off the roads in protest over the soaring cost of operations, accusing their association leaders of betraying them at a critical time. The operators also accused the government of failing to heed repeated calls to cushion ordinary Kenyans from the unrelenting rise in fuel prices.
