The Lake Bogoria ecosystem which is a conducive habitat for flamingoes is under threat following the invasion of the destructive weed Prosopis Juliflora. The fast growing weed commonly referred to as Mathenge has cast a shadow over the water body inhibiting the growth of other plants mostly relied on by the flamingoes for feeding and breeding The Mathenge weed has also invaded shores of Lake Bogoria making the landing and take-off of flamingoes impossible.
