The Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) has strongly opposed the government’s proposal to collect royalties from musicians through the e–e-citizen platform. Speaking in Maanzoni, Machakos County during the MCSK annual general meeting on Friday, the CEO, Ezekiel Mutua stated that the move will not be effective as the government does not contribute to the musicians as they produce music and further said that copyright is private property. Mutua further urged the government to refrain from enforcing the move which he says could lead to legal battles.
