Menopause myths debunked - BBC Africa
Menopause is a topic that is rarely spoken about in many cultures and communities yet impacts around 50% of the world’s population.
The menopause is when women's periods stop. When periods haven't happened for 12 months, you can look back and say you've been through the menopause (the last period). For some, it can happen earlier - either naturally, or after treatment for another condition.
This signals the end of the reproductive years and the start of a new phase of life.
Now, the globally recognised ‘World Menopause Day’ is seeking to change that and open up the conversation on the topic.
Whilst this is a great start, there are a few false truths floating about when it comes to menopause, so how much of what we know to be true is really fact?
The BBC’s Irenitemi Somuyiwa is busting some of the myths and misconceptions around menopause.
