The Kenya Young Lionesses won one match and lost one on the opening day of women rugby competition. Kenya lost 38-5 to Fiji in the first match of the tournament where they conceded four tries in the second half of the match. Fiji led 12-5 at half time with two tries from Arieta Tonono. Kenya replied through Linda Kagwiria. In the second match, Kenya stunned Wales 20-12. The cubs took a 15-0 lead at half time in a match they completely dominated. They scored the tries through Marvel Otieno, Linda Kagwiria and Ann Namunyak. At the beginning of the second half, Lockwood Seren scored twice for Wales to reduce the deficit to 12-15. Mitchelle Alivitsa then broke the line to score the fourth try for Kenya for the 20-12 win.
