Governor Nassir continued his onslaught on the National Government’s plans to privatize operations in the Port of Kilindini in Mombasa. The Governor spoke as he hosted Trade CS Moses Kuria for the ground breaking of the Mombasa County Aggregated Industrial Park in Miritini, Jomvu.
“We are not opposed to development, but we speak on behalf of millions of resident who may not be able to speak for themselves when we ask what is in it for the people of Mombasa in the privatization of their Port?” said Nassir in a fiery speech before hundreds of cheering attendants.
The Governor has been on an aggressive advocacy campaign opposing the Port privatization recently advertised by the Kenya Ports Authority citing lack of consultation and due process.
“We have not seen any feasibility study that has informed this decision. Nor has any of the leadership of Mombasa been consulted on how this shall affect our residents including issues to do with job losses and closure of locally owned businesses,” the County Boss explained as a pensive looking CS Kuria looked on. Also present were the Deputy Governor of Mombasa Hon. Francis Thoya and Hon. Bady Twalib (MP, Jomvu) among several other local leaders.
