More pain for Kenyans as matatu operators hike bus fares across the country

    Bus fares in the Nairobi metropolitan area will go up by 30-50 shillings following the hike in prices of fuel. The matatu owners’ association announced a 20 per cent increase in fares to cover for the losses occasioned by the increase in cost of fuel as announced by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority. This would mean that if a matatu was charging 100 shillings, it will now charge 120 shillings. EPRA announced an increase in the price of kerosene by Ksh 33.13 to retail at Ksh 202.61. The price of petrol rose by ksh16.96 to retail at Ksh 211.64 per litre in Nairobi. The price of diesel rose by Ksh 21.32.
