Former Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula and one of Kenya Kwanza’s founding principals is the new speaker of the National Assembly. Wetangula garnered 215 votes in the first round of voting against his only rival Kenneth Marende who scored 130 votes. A second vote had been expected but Marende stepped down, prompting Acting National Assembly Clerk Sarah Kioko to declare Wetangula winner. He was sworn in as the 8th speaker of the house.
