Police have made a breakthrough in their investigation of the assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were. The pistol used to kill the legislator has been linked to three violent robberies across Nairobi and Kiambu counties. The weapon was recovered from one of ten suspects currently in custody, many of whom are tied to a gang police refer to as the mujahideen gang, a criminal syndicate operating in Nairobi’s Eastlands. Forensic experts traced the suspects’ movements from parliament using CCTV footage and uncovered cash believed to have been paid to the hitmen. While the manhunt for more suspects intensifies, the motive behind Were's assassination remains unclear.
