Members of Parliament now want the state department of higher education to provide details of beneficiaries of 3.1 billion shillings granted to private universities for government-sponsored students. This is after the office of the auditor general flagged out at least 412 million shillings that were disbursed to 15 private universities as capitation for nine thousand students who had stayed beyond the duration of their courses. Higher education Principal Secretary Beatrice Inyangala was at pains to convince the MPs that the auditor general relied on data that had not been updated by the university fund.
