Muturi rejects Gachagua's call to dissolve opposition parties

Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi has rejected calls by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for their parties to dissolve and join the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP). Accompanied by PNU leader Peter Munya and Mbus Party leader Lenny Kivuti, the leaders said only individual political parties have the authority to decide whether to merge or dissolve, insisting that their political independence must be respected. Their response follows remarks made by Gachagua during a church service, where he urged parties allied to the opposition in the Mount Kenya region to fold into DCP. While reaffirming their commitment to working together in offering an alternative to President William Ruto's administration, the leaders maintained that unity should not come at the expense of party autonomy, adding that their position should not be interpreted as a crack within the opposition coalition.
