County Governments are in the spotlight for prioritizing domestic and foreign travel as well as paying bloated payrolls over development and service delivery. This is according to a report by the controller of budget for the last 9 months in the financial year 2024/2025. Leading the list in counties spending the bulk of the budget on travel is Nairobi County which spent 615 million shillings followed by Tana River at 502 Million and Kitui which spent 441 Million shillings. The Controller of Budget further revealed that most counties are spending more than half of their revenue on wages breaching the law and limiting development spending.
