A section of donkey rights activists are calling on the national government to tighten up measures put in place to protect the beast of burden from extinction. Speaking in Kithyoko area in Masinga Sub-County of Machakos county during a ceremony to mark the national donkey day, the activists led by Joseph Mwongela, the Chief Executive Officer of Inades Formation, cited illegal slaughter for hides and skins and the ignorance of farmers on animal welfare as the biggest dangers facing donkeys in the country.
