The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairperson, Erastus Edung is pledging to discharge his duties diligently and safeguard Kenyans' democratic rights in the 2027 general election. Speaking at The Supreme Court of Kenya on Friday shortly after he and six other commissioners took oath of office, Edung said free and credible elections are the foundation of a thriving democracy, and his team will strive for the same while owing fidelity to the people of Kenya and the constitution. Chief Justice Martha Koome, who presided over the event, cautioned the new IEBC team that it was taking office at a time when Kenyans have expressed discontent with public institutions and that it must do everything possible to gain public trust.
