The sugar sector is set for a major turnaround following the inking of a deal that will see farmers and employees of Nzoia Sugar company receive their dues amounting to 5.6 billion shillings. The deal is further sweetened after investors at West Sugar Company, who have secured a 30-year lease to operate Nzoia Sugar Company, pledged to settle the dues within 7 days. Ben Chumba has details of the changing fortunes within the sugar sector that, for a long time, had left a bitter taste in the mouths of farmers.
