The Inspector general of police Douglas Kanja said the circumstances surrounding the death of Albert Ojwang incident it was necessary to investigate the death in accordance with regulations governing deaths in police custody. Kanja said during a routine cell inspection Ojwang was found unconscious and immediately rushed to Mbagathi hospital for treatment, but upon arrival he was declared dead. Following the incident the IG interdicted of the Officer Commanding Station - OCS, at Nairobi central police and all officers on duty during the night in question as even the Independent Police Oversight Authority , IPOA launched investigation towards the matter.
