There was great joy and tears of happiness in Kapilat Village, Elgeyo Marakwet County, after a poor widow who had lived in deep poverty for more than ten years received a new, fully furnished house from the Community and well-wishers. Sally Cheptanui Kotut, 40, a mother of five, had been living in a leaking, insect-filled wooden shelter in a swampy area, where she and her children often slept in the cold and wet. Her difficult life touched the hearts of villagers and caught the attention of the community and well-wishers. Who led an effort to build her a better home? As people sang, prayed, and danced during the house handover, the event brought hope to the whole village and showed how kindness and working together can bring real change to someone’s life.
