Tonight, we begin with the Competency-Based Education transition into Grade 10, now in its second term. Even as the government insists that over 99 percent of learners have successfully transitioned to Grade 10, the reality on the ground tells a more painful story.
More learners continue to narrate how poverty has locked them out of classrooms despite competitively earning their placements.
In Mombasa County, a 15-year-old girl who emerged top in her school is yet to report to Grade 10, four months into the transition. She says her family cannot afford the school requirements, despite earlier declarations that required school heads to admit learners with or without school fees or uniforms.
This comes as President William Ruto joined calls for the amalgamation of all scholarship programmes, with proposals allowing well-wishers to contribute towards supporting learners from poor backgrounds.
